Adding liquid RV roof coating to your RV’s roof can add years to its life and help prevent damage to your RV. To get the best results possible, you need to make sure you’re applying the product correctly.

RV Roof Magic coating is simple to apply to your roof and provides years of protection when applied correctly. Before you get started on the application process, make sure you follow these tips.

Surface Prep

Before applying the coating, you must prepare the roof for application. Your RV’s roof needs to be free of any oils, moisture, soil, or other debris that could interfere with the coating’s ability to adhere.

Wash your roof with Roof Protect, a cleaner that emulsifies contaminants and properly prepares the surface for RV Roof Magic. It also has a mildewcide to kill any mold spores on your roof.

It’s recommended to use Roof Protect annually to keep your coating clean and protected from potential debris, lengthening the lifespan of your roof. Roof Protect is the only cleaner guaranteed to be compatible with RV Roof Magic, so using it doesn’t void your warranty like other cleaners can.

Application Temperature Guidelines

RV Roof Magic can be applied at any temperature. However, the air temperature should be at least 50 degrees and rising for best results. This temperature will ensure the coating becomes waterproof within three to four hours and dries completely within eight to 10 hours.

If you apply RV Roof Magic during the fall or winter, know it won’t dry until it’s been in air temperatures above 50 degrees for the full eight to 10 hours. If temperatures fall below that overnight, the coating will finish drying the following day once temperatures rise again.

It’s best to wait a full 24 hours before traveling in your RV to ensure the coating is fully adhered to your roof. If you want to add a second coat (you don’t have to), wait a full 24 hours before you apply it.

Application Methods

Your RV Roof Magic must be mixed with an electric drill for approximately five minutes. This allows even distribution of the solvent in the coating.

For the easiest application, chalk off your roof in six-foot-long sections. The average RV is eight feet wide, so this will create sections that are just under 50 square feet. A gallon of RV Roof Magic covers approximately 50 square feet, which is why this method works best.

Make sure your roof is completely dry before you begin applying the coating. RV Roof Magic should be applied with a 3/8th inch nap roller and a paintbrush for corners and vertical surfaces. Don’t use a foam roller for application.

If you have separated seams, using butyl tape or poly fabric on them is suggested. You can also use Skylight-911, a clear coat that will protect your fiberglass skylights. All of these can be used in conjunction with RV Roof Magic.

Other Tips

In addition to those above, here are some other quick tips for great application of RV Roof Magic:

  • The product can be stored for up to five years if you have an air-tight seal on it.
  • Don’t apply the coating on a day when rain is forecasted.
  • Applying the product too thickly can cause it to wrinkle.
  • Customers with EPDM roofs may experience slight bubbling, which is only temporary.

Final Thoughts

Proper application is key to getting success from RV liquid roof coating. Prepare the roof correctly and apply it at the right temperature and weather conditions to ensure it can dry properly. Once your RV Roof Magic is in place, you’re ready for any adventure.
